Why can't I delete a Public Folder in Outlook Connector even though I've got full permissions to it and its parent folder?

Question:

Why can't I delete a Public Folder in Outlook Connector even though I've got full permissions to it and its parent folder?

Answer:

When you try this in Outlook Connector what happens is that when Outlook tries to delete a folder, it renames the folder to be a subfolder of the Deleted Items folder.

MDaemon doesn't allow IMAP folders to be renamed crossing public/private folder boundaries and so the deletion fails with "A resource is busy or you lack sufficient permissions error".

There are a few workarounds to allow this deletion despite this...

1. When selecting delete hold down SHIFT on the keyboard. This will cause Outlook to permanently delete the Public Folder and as it won't try and move it to the deleted items folder the same issue won't occur. It's important to note that there is no way to recover this folder from Outlook when this step is taken though.

2. Login to WorldClient and delete the folder from there. WorldClient is capable of deleting the entire folder without renaming it first so it will allow you to delete it and move it to your the deleted items folder.

3. In the MDaemon Interface at Setup -> Default Domain / Servers -> Public and Shared Folders -> Folder Listings and ACLs select the folder and choose 'Remove'.
