Q10329 - HOWTO: Setting up the email client on a Symbian (Nokia / Sony Ericsson) phone
If you are going to be using your Symbian (Nokia / Sony Ericsson) phone from outside your network, then you will need to ensure that your MDaemon server is accessible to your phone when it is connecting from the Internet back into your server.

This will usually require that your router/firewall has been configured appropriately so that your MDaemon server is accessible on the following ports:-

IMAP:  TCP port 143
SMTP:  TCP port 25

The steps required to configure port forwarding on most firewalls and routers are covered at http://www.portforward.com

If you are going to be using SSL encrypted connections (if you're not sure, then you're probably not), the appropriate port numbers are as follows:-

IMAP over SSL:  TCP port 993
POP over SSL:  TCP port 995

Make sure that you've previously logged into your account via WorldClient at least once - this ensures that all your standard personal folders such as 'Drafts, Sent Items, Deleted Items' are present along with your Inbox.

(The steps below were performed on a Symbian S60 - other Symbian devices will have the same or very similar steps)

Open the Menu screen and choose Messaging:

Scroll down and choose Mailbox:

If you have no other mailboxes setup, your phone will ask you to define a mailbox, choose Yes, then Start:

(If you already have a mailbox defined, you will need to press the Options button, choose Settings, scroll down to Email, press the Options button again and choose New Mailbox)

For the Mailbox type, choose IMAP4:

Enter your email address:

You will then be asked for your Incoming and Outgoing email servers which can be entered either as hostnames or IP addresses. Typically this would be either a valid hostname such as 'mail.mydomain.com' or your public IP address such as 81.23.24.65:

(At this point you may be asked which Network Connection the device needs to use. Select the appropriate option for your handset at this point.)

Enter a name for the mailbox and click Finish:

You now need to configure your username and password for both incoming and outgoing email.  In the Messaging menu, scroll down to your mailbox and open it.  Click the Options button, scroll down to E-mail settings and open it:

Select Connection Settings:

Then select Incoming e-mail:

Enter the username and password for your MDaemon email account:

Go back and repeat this process for the Outgoing email settings.

Your email account in now configured on your Symbian Phone!
