Q10193 - HOWTO: Synchronising Calendar, Contacts and Tasks with a Symbian (Nokia, Sony, etc) Phone

Synchronising Calendar, Contacts and Tasks with a Symbian (Nokia, Sony) Phone:

Using the built-in SyncML application in a Symbian Phone (Nokia and Sony Ericcson phones tend to be Symbian based) it is possible to synchronise your Calendar, Contacts and Tasks by taking the following steps.

To setup the Synchronization Profile...

1.  From the desktop select Extra -> Synchronisation

2.  Press the MENU button and select NEW

3.  If the system asks you to copy data from the selected profile answer NO

4.  For the profile name enter MDAEMON and press CONTINUE

5.  Select connection type INTERNET, the Internet access point, and press CONTINUE

6.  Enter the following settings:

 Host: http://WorldClientURL:3000/MDSyncML.dll

(For example, if WorldClient was accessible via on http://82.69.248.134:3000 then the URL would be http://82.69.248.134:3000/MDSyncML.DLL)

Port: Port used by WorldClient at Setup -> WorldClient in MDaemon (default port is 3000)
 Username: Your MDaemon Username
 Password: Your MDaemon Password

7.  Press CONTINUE

8.  Turn contacts ON

9. Turn calendar ON

11. Turn e-mail OFF

12. Press NEXT

13. Enter "Contacts" for the External Contacts Database and press CONTINUE

(If you want to synchronise a Public Contacts folder instead then use the following format in the External Contacts Database field instead: ./Public Folder/company.mail/Contacts)

14. Enter "Calendar" for the External Contacts Database and press CONTINUE

(If you want to synchronise a Public Calendar folder instead then use the following format in the External Contacts Database field instead: ./Public Folder/company.mail/Calendar)

15. Set this profile as the default profile if you like and press CONTINUE

Possible Issues to Note:

1. At present it is only possible to synchronise Calendar, Contact and Tasks data via SyncML.

2. Personal and Public folders cannot be synchronised at the same time.

3. SyncML synchronises Calendar, Contacts and Tasks data held in WorldClient. If you use Outlook Connector then this WorldClient data mirrors the corresponding Outlook based data. However, standard POP3 and IMAP clients do not store their Calendar, Contacts and Tasks information in MDaemon and what gets synchronised using SyncML via WorldClient will not reflect your local Outlook data.
