Thanks to Backup Assist we were able allow our customer to continue to use their USB Tape drive in Windows 7. We found that while the drive was supported there was no other option but to use the ever reliable Backup Assist software to get us out of a bind. It also meant the customer didn?t have to throw away a $1000 tape drive.
Praise must go to Linus and the team as we were able to continue to use a legacy tape drive with an ever changing Windows operating system.

One of these days I will have to write a story about how excellent your product is.
Short version:
CEO syncs his blackberry with his entourage and selects the "sync from phone" option.
It wipes out his entire calendar contacts and emails from the past three years.
Now a few years ago had this happened I would have spent half a day restoring files from the exchange server mount.
Instead, from my iPhone no doubt; I log into the server, open his email and import his backed up pst file from the night before.
Everyone was ecstatic and I was the hero!
I will be updating my software when I switch to 2008!

I was looking for an easy and good backup program for indoor and outdoor backup because the backup for my accounting firm is essential. In the past I bought Symantec but this was difficult to understand and the packet was also not complete because SQL and Exchange are extra modules and that was very expensive for me, because I have a 2 person company.
Now I use BackupAssist and everything is very simple to understand also for me with a little bit of computer experience. I use SQL / Exchange and Rsync backup on locations in the office and also outdoor. This works fantastic with every morning an email with backup successful and if there is an error there is an useful help file or you can email the support which will email in 24 hours.
So BackupAssist is for me the right program for a good price.

We are very impressed with BackupAssist so far, and will be purchasing numerous copies shortly. I need to install/test one more evaluation copy, on our primary Exchange server, to ensure that piece works well. We have about 1000 mailboxes to backup on that server.
The simplicity in which it works, the ease of setting up and modifying jobs, and the EXCELLENT reporting features are all we have ever wanted in a backup solution....most backup solutions try to provide far too many feature (90% of which we never use) and you need to spend hours figuring out the nuances of the product and end up with a huge product install full of bugs.
We are backing up to a couple NAS boxes on our network which is working great. We just need to get on off-site solution going now as well.
So far, we have it installed on a "file server" with no special needs, a SQL server, and a Front-End exchange server with no mailboxes. If all goes well, we will be purchasing multiple copies to protect all our other servers at this site, as well as at our other sites.

Originally our company began using a well known brand of backup software. It was cumbersome and at times difficult to setup and maintain.
Some eighteen months ago we decided to try Backupassist. Since that time we have used nothing else. We started with version 3 and now look forward to using the latest version 5. Needless to say that Backassist cost considerably less than the previous brand also.
We now have approximately 15 servers within Australia using Backupassist and plan on installing it on another eleven servers in New Zealand. The Centralised Management feature in version 5 will allow us to gain even more productivity in the monitoring of all the backups.

Whilst looking on Google for a more cost effective and cheaper solution for backing up our School?s network servers, I came across Backup Assist. I am so impressed with this software that I only wished I had found it sooner!
It is very simple to install, configure and use. Once installed and during the first setup, it gives you the option to prepare and schedule the tapes, and you can also set it up to send email reminders to your email address, such as a reminder to change the tape for that day, and it will also email you a report whether the job has been completed successfully with any errors reported.. One of the best features about this product is, as well as selecting local files and local system state on the server you install Backup Assist on, you can select to include remote file and folders if you have other servers on your network without having to purchase any additional add-ons.
You do not have to be an expert to set up Backup Assist ? it really is THAT easy to install and use! And what?s more, it is a much cheaper alternative and a fraction of the price of the more well known product Symantec?s Backup EXEC 12.5, which I had been using for years at my previous employment.

Over the past 5 years, we have used a combination of NT Backup, [Competitor 1] and [Competitor 2]. Each have had their issues with faulty patching and dodgy updates, inconsistent results, error logs that tell us nothing and the like... In every case where we haven't been able to configure their existing software to give consistent successful backups.
BackupAssist has saved us hours of searching for a fix to existing problems.
The BackupAssist price factor also has made it very easy to offer the customer a trial, with full confidence that they will have no more software issues with their backup system
From our point of view ? it will actually cost us less in wasted time and effort!

Prior to purchasing (BackupAssist) we had a backup system with which we were using Windows NT Server, utilizing the built in program provided by Microsoft. It simply was not doing the job. We had just experienced a hard drive failure. When we attempted to restore from our backup we discovered that our backup system had failed a month previously. However, we had no warning or notice. It was a disaster. We vowed it would never happen again; and set out to find the perfect product for backup.
We needed a backup system that not only was foolproof - we had to be able to "set it; and, forget it.". It also had to send us a message when it backed up successfully or when it did not back up successfully. It had to have the ability to tell us what files were giving problems on backup. And as an added treat, it had to remind us to "put in the tape". Your product delivered "in spades".
The greatest strength of the product is as I have outlined herein. We just set the tape in the morning. We are notified by email of the status of the previous night's backup. We are informed of any problem files. It is terrific!
Fabulous product, excellent price, good followup service.

I have been installing backup products for the last 14 years, in a variety of situations for tape, media, and removable hard drive installations. I have tried at least 6 different back up solutions from major players, and with out fail, they all do. Most backup solutions are way too complicated to be used by my clients, or do not offer the feature set we need for small business. After using your product in one location, the clients were so impressed that they selected your product over a similar competing product we were also evaluating. I have since recommended this backup solution to all my clients. I find that the installation and set up is completely straight forward, and that the email notifications work perfectly every night. It is a pleasure to use and a relief to know that I can restore from any workstation or server on my network.
Thanks you for a truly excellent product at a very reasonable price!

At Rebooted, we provide our clients with on site computer installation and support. We constantly have the task of setting up tape backup procedures for our clients. I found that using BackupAssist significantly reduced the time taken to set up the backups, scheduling scripts, and explain the whole process to our client - thus saving time and money.
All our clients want is a simple backup strategy that's secure, easy to follow and implement, and BackupAssist provides just that. It's an excellent product, and I do like the emailed logs as it allows me to remotely check progress.

It provides exactly the service I need. The scheduling is reliable, the reporting excellent (little touches such as screen shots with error messages make me exclaim "why don't other systems do that"). Before Backupassist I had a manual rotation system in place, but I would forget to change tapes. Getting an e-mail each day that not only reminds me to change the tape, but also tells me which tape to put in, makes the job a no brainer, and backups don't get missed.
You've made my backup procedure easy and very straight forward. I have used many backup utilities from [competitor] to manually zipping files. I think the reason BackupAssist is so good is because it concentrates on giving the system administrator the tools they need to do their job. It provides a service to me the fallible forgetful human rather than me the technical IT manager.

ETI wanted to have a backup system put in place, but did not want to spend $700 - 1000 at the present for a full-blown backup app... I was tasked to setup backup jobs in NTBackup for now until they were ready to spend the money.
Also, they wanted to be able to check everyday if the backup was successful or not, and I was contemplating how to do that, hopefully without allowing users to log onto the server directly.
After researching all of my options, I ran across your website (via Google I think) and was very interested. The BackupAssist program seemed to fit the need perfectly, do everything we would need and then some, all for a very reasonable price. So I pitched it to ETI to try it out for 30 days for free, and if the program actually performed as advertised, it would meet our needs and only then would they need to buy it. After trying it out for 30 days, the application performed exceptionally. And then rest is history.
My personal favorite is getting emails everyday - that automation saves so much time and training. Secondly, having options for the backup routine - how many tapes to use, etc, and based on NTBackup but having all the programming completed is tremendous.

Price & convenience. I no longer have to constantly check to make sure that the backup was successful. BackupAssist lets me know that everything went fine, or that there was a problem. This is especially handy for the backups at our remote site. Our super-expensive "name-brand" backup software was unable to do this. The backups are also in a universal format that I can read on any windows machine.
This has got to be the easiest backup solution I've ever seen! Setup takes 5 minutes! It walks you through each step and doesn't have any "buried" features that you have to dig for.
This software is great! I was literally up and running in under 5 minutes! With our old software, I constantly had to check and make sure that it was working. If I forgot to change tapes, it would just sit there, trying to complete the backup job until I would tell it to stop. (Very Annoying!) The tapes were also in a proprietary format that only that software could read. BackupAssist is easier to use, has more features, and costs a fraction of what our previous solution did. This purchase was a no-brainer!

We had evaluated quite a few before finding BackupAssist. We are a young, very small company (just 2 people ... so far :-)) but nonetheless our data is extremely important to us. We were originally backing up to an external hard disk which after 2 years of operation just recently stopped working. We were evaluating a better backup solution (which included a rotation scheme and more robust media) when we stumbled upon BackupAssist. The extensive papers and articles on the site helped us effectively choose a media that is affordable for us. The BackupAssist software was also very affordable and works very well.
THE AUTOMATED EMAIL FEATURE!!! Being such a small company, we barely have enough hours in the day to do all our work, let alone administrative tasks such as monitoring our backup software!! BackupAssist sends emails when it needs something, and status emails so I know exactly what the status of our backups is every day without leaving my desk!!
The help documentation is comprehensive and the support if you need it is extremely responsive and helpful. In the console, there are recommendations and helpful explanations about the features.

I am not usually responsive to follow-up contact from software companies and would not normally reply. The fact that I'm replying to you is a compliment to your excellent product.
We are a business software reseller / developer looking after approx 180 sites of 5 - 50 users. All networks that we supply will have one fileserver with a single tapestreamer and, up to NT4, a scheduled backup using ntbackup was perfectly reliable.
With the advent of W2000, I spent about 2 weeks trying to bypass the unnecessary complications introduced by Microsoft. We arrived at a solution, but it's cumbersome & difficult to support when things go wrong. W2003 has proved to be even more picky about libraries / media pools and your product is the only one I've found so far that addresses the inherent problems with a commonsense approach.
It is my intention to include your product in all future systems that we specify.
Again, congratulations on a very worthwhile product. Keep us posted of any further developments.
Regards.

I struggled for over a week with NT backup trying to get scheduled backups to work but to no avail. This included in depth searches on the internet with the search string "ntbackup on windows 2000 server". Although I found a number of helpful sites I still couldn't get it to work.
Then I spotted your site in the recommended under Google. Within 1 hour I had downloaded the software, printed and studied the manual and got my backup working - and this is the third morning I have arrived at work to find the backup has completed successfully, completely without any interference from me. To say I am delighted would be an understatement!

Subject: RE: BackupAssist evaluation information
I'm really loving BackupAssist.
I had been having backup problems off-and-on for about 6 months using [competitor]. I had applied [competitor] patches and upgrades/updates, but I wasn't sure I had gotten everything because [competitor] web-site is rather difficult to navigate (for me, anyway :) I was living with the constant apprehension that the backups were going to one day die, or restores would stop working. I was doing all backups manually by this time. Finally, I called Dell tech-support to see if I was actually having a hardware problem. The Dell tech asked me to try NTBackup as test. I did, and it worked fine. So much for [competitor], which, in all fairness, had worked fine for a couple of years, but now was failing miserably. Reinstallation, re-patching, and re-updating / upgrading didn't fix anything.
So, I went online and read reviews for other tape-backup software. Most of the reviews I found were for disk-imagers and were for writing to CD or DVD. I didn't want to pay ~$500 for the latest [competitor], since manual backups with NTBackup were working fine. The problems with NTBackup was that I wanted the tape to eject after a job was complete, and I wanted more explicit logs.
I did a web-search for '"tape backup software" ntbackup' and the first hit was the BackupAssist home page. I liked what I read on the page, and I *really* liked the 30-day trial. I also liked the additional functions provided with BackupAssist. I decided to give it a try.
Installation was a breeze, and setup was too. So far, BackupAssist is doing *EXACTLY* what I want it to do, and even more (emailing, open-file-copying, standardized backup schemes, etc. :)
If I don't run into any problems over the next couple of weeks, I will *definitely* go ahead and make the purchase, *and* I'll be telling our other Admins to forget the incredibly-expensive, supposed "industry standards" with which they're continually having problems.
So far, *this* aspect of my computer administration life has become a non-issue after having struggled for a few months just to get some *reliability* :)
Thanks for a great product!
Sincerely,
Dan Kline

Subject: Restore
Dear Support,
Just thought I'd let you know how good the product is.
I've been using a "well known" backup product for sometime but have never been able to get the email notification working & the question of which tape to use or how to introduce new tapes was completely beyond me. Of course, I've only been working with computers for 25 years!!
However I did do something really stupid - I never tried the restore side of the package. Lo & behold along comes a restore situation - just a useful small freeware app that nobody had wanted for a long time so I'd moved it to tape & deleted from our installs directory. Despite having the manual in one hand & the software running on screen I could not get the software to match the manual; it only wanted to restore from the last tape.
In desperation I turned to Google, found your product, installed & away we go. Email notification works straight away, tape rotation & labelling is easy. Pulled out my old backup tape of installs; watch your restore video (I now understand MS Removable Storage Manager)& started the restore.
I have now restored the valuable app. From a DAT backup dated 22/02/2002 done on NTBackup !!!
Now that's what I call backup & restore !!!
Many thanks for a really well written piece of software, I shall be registering ASAP.

Quick comments
"Another Computer consultant evaluated, purchased and recommended this software to Network Integration Solutions Inc.
Since then, we are so impressed, that as far as I'm concerned any of our new servers will have a license of BackupAssist
to make the media management simple.
It's wonderful.
Since Windows 2000 (and above), Microsoft has made media management a nightmare for a "small" server. All the extra work required for media management is really not required for a simple backup schedule like ours. The feature in BackupAssist that is MOST VALUABLE is the ease of configuring a simple backup schedule and having the user insert the next tape in rotation and have it all just work, without the overhead of Microsoft Media Management."
Scott Young, Network Integration Solutions Inc., Canada

"We needed a low-cost backup solution for one of our servers to do isolated, full backups every night that could provide some automation using NTBackup.
BackupAssist has an advantage over expensive software solutions because it's simple, cost-effective and gets the job done without creating a complicated mess like some of the expensive packages do.
The auto-eject, e-mail reminders and e-mail reports are great because a non-technical staff member can be assigned to remove and replace the appropriate tapes."
Jim Ficarra, Cross Current Corporation, USA

"BackupAssist was suggested to me by a friend, I tried the demonstration because I didn't like the way the larger
backup programs worked. I wanted to use backup rotation, but wasn't sure how and when I found that BackupAssist managed
it all for me, as well as doing the SQL and Exchange backups it was an immediate decision to buy. Great software."
Ben Townsley, Pronamics Pty Ltd, Australia

"My boss asked me to look into backup software to replace the current system, which was just scheduled Windows Backup jobs. He wanted something that would e-mail him a status report, and he also wanted an improved backup rotation scheme compared to what was in place at the time. He had used competitor at some point in the pass and found it to be too big and overcomplicated. I did some research on alternatives and found BackupAssist. In addition to having the features we wanted, we liked the fact that it was 'lightweight' and used Windows Backup so our tapes could be restored onto any Windows machine. The low price was nice, too."
Jesse Osby, Allegro Consultants, USA

"It's a simple, effective, up to date and powerful backup tool... its user friendly interface and ease of use are its greatest strengths... Great Backup-tool, excellent and quick response from your Company!"
Peter, Mapivalues NL, The Netherlands

"I avoided the high fees for a [competitor] install, and got what I needed for our small organization. Does great for our 2 servers. Wish I'd found it sooner."
Eddie, Woordbridge Gardens Inc. USA

"BackupAssist has solved our concerns with the data backup process. The program generates an email to advise us that the backup process has been completed either successfully or with problems. The attached log file provides a detailed report of the whole process. A quality, value for money product written here in Australia."
Henk, Alpha Nursing Australia P/L, Melbourne Australia

"[We] had trouble with the expensive brand... but enjoy BackupAssist's ease of use.... Works great."
Sharon, Coyote Valley Tribunal Council, USA

"We had tried several (very expensive) backup software applications and were not convinced that they were (a) reliable or (b) cost effective for our clients.
I'm glad that we found BackupAssist. Whilst we realise the importance
of backups ourselves, it has always been difficult to sell to clients in
small to medium business when we had to include software with a $1000+ price
tag. BackupAssist will make the sale much easier not only because of the
price tag, but because we KNOW that it works so well.
3 greatest strengths of the software:
- That it is able to use the existing backup facilities present in NT/2000
- Email reports and reminders
- User friendliness. It provides all the options that the average client needs without being overly complicated.
It's probably the most user friendly backup software I have seen/used.
Gary, Computers@Ballarat, Australia

"BackupAssist's greatest strength is its automation. We needed a solution where the person at the remote site has NO admin rights, just needs to change the tape - nothing else!
Aaron, Direct Wines, UK

"I was referred to BackupAssist by my consultant and am very impressed at its ability to overcome the shortcomings of ntbackup.
I ran into snags using the Windows 2000 native ntbackup software and have too many other areas of responsibility to let this slow me down. BackupAssist made the difference.
Ease of use... the wizard sets up the backup scheme with a great interface. Then, customizations can be made intuitively as well.
Your great support is a strong factor in evaluating BackupAssist. I followed your instructions, installed and configured version 2.1 and the backup took place last night without a hitch - beautiful! I'm thoroughly satisfied with both the product and your support! Cheers
Joel McCormick, Interwest Distributing Corporation, USA

"BackupAssist is a great application. It's simple, intuitive and does what it's supposed to do. When I had a small problem with the app, I emailed support. They fixed the problem very quickly and sent a new version of the app. These guys obviously care about their product and the consumer. It's also a welcome relief to see a software development team that doesn't follow the industry trend by greatly overpricing their software... Thanks!
Neel, Dealer Products Inc, USA

"We purchased BackupAssist as a solid way of making sure that the data was backed up successfully. This program allows us the peace of mind of knowing that our data is securely backed up on a daily basis.
Wynnona, ADA Station Communication, USA

"BackupAssist has cured a problem I have had ongoing for several months where I have been unable to hand over the backup responsibility to the client, so a big thanks for that!
Having struggled with NTBACKUP for months, BackupAssist came to the rescue and turned a problem into a solution.... It makes the NTBACKUP program work (that's a bit obvious) and I like the usage of email to inform about backup status and reminders to load the tape.
Very user friendly and extremely easy to use.
PS. Thanks for Kylie and BackupAssist, oh yes and, Rolf Harris
Andrew Wood, NuWood Technologies Ltd, UK

"The greatest strength is without doubt the easiness of implementing a working backup schedule. Combined with the email capability it provides everything I need for our business' backups at a very competitive price level!
I really like the product! It's one of the few products I've tested where I really felt that I needed to get this product because it was so easy to use, did the job and was reasonably priced. As a small business there are a lot of programs you need that you can't afford or motivate the cost given the size of the company."
Johan Sandqvist, AB Gyllenhammar & Sahlin, Sweden

"We tried lots of software. Among those evaluated were [major competitors' products]. All of the packages except yours operated inconsistently (or not at all), several would not read backup tapes it created an verified, some could not access hardware or access was inconsistent, some caused system lockups or blue screen crashes. I could go on but it would take several pages to describe all the quirks, shortcomings and problems of each package. All of the above packages ranged in price from $900 USD to > $3,000 USD in the configuration we needed.
BackupAssist strengths ? Ease of use. Reliability. Strong reporting & notification options (yours actually work!)
Nice job. The price is definitely right for a small business."
Mr. Charles D. Amata Jr., CPTechnologies, Inc., Columbus, OH USA

"On switching to NT Server 2003 I found it impossible to get a reliable backup to work consistently using the included software utility. We already had a rotation system in use on our previous NT4.0 servers.
After struggling for a month to get NT server 2003 to run reliable backups and getting fed-up with unknown/invalid/incorrect' media messages it was a relief to find software that did the job properly and the fact that we now get emailed information messages regarding backup success or failure is an added bonus."
Chris Ransom, LEPRA (Medical Charity), UK

"We are a small (and growing!) business using SBS 2000 to manage our file services and exchange email. Having spent some considerable hours setting up automated backups etc a few months earlier, I know how unnecessarily painful this process can be. When I had to do it for the 2nd time I looked for an alternative and Backup Assist was my choice. BackupAssist takes all of that pain away and sorts out the MS Exchange open files problem in a few simple steps. Excellent.
Keep up the good work, but don't make Backup Assist to cumbersome and over burdened with new and unnecessary features."
Martin Beake, 2Sys Ltd, UK

Yes its very user friendly and understandable."
Torben Bjarke Nielsen, Malchris Webservice, Denmark

"Old Backup S/W (Ver????) version would not work with new OS. Windows Backup very tedious to use and monitor. BackupAssist is great because:
- Excellent Admin interface
- Windows Backup Compatible
- Most features found in expensive S/W

Eric Jordan, Brighton Central Schools, USA

"Have used [competitors' products] - too expensive, complicated architecture for majority of servers we use.
Advantages of BackupAssist are simplicity. Cost. Ease of use. Ability to use native NT backup, existing MS DRP
documentation and procedures etc etc
Easiest I have used so far - [competitors' products] etc. Complete novice could use this software.
Full marks for ease of use / clear explanations."
Kieran Murphy, Powerscreen International Ltd, N. Ireland

"NTBackup scheduling is clumsy and unreliable. Client did not want to spend on [major competitors'] products.
We would include BackupAssist as a value-add product in every Windows Server 200x we install in future. No more headaches!"
Hong Siew, Inscope IT Solutions Pty Ltd, Australia

"We just recently upgraded our backup strategy to a tape solution. Being a small company, we were not interested in spending large amounts of money on complicated backup software, so we planned on using NTBackup instead. However, we quickly learned of the unnecessary complexities involved in using NTBackup. BackupAssist helps manage those complexities and makes our new tape backup strategy as simple as possible.
Within minutes, BackupAssist allowed us to implement a thorough backup strategy that minimized the amount of work involved by our IT staff.
BackupAssist?s greatest strength is the fact that it just works. It may seem like such an obvious thing for software to just work without a lot of hassle, but that is not usually the case. It is always a pleasant surprise when software just works without a bunch of hand-holding by the user, and that is certainly the case with BackupAssist.
Also, automatic naming of media. I am amazed that there is no easy way to do this in NTBackup, since names are the only way to realistically track multiple backups.
E-mail notifications/reminders. Given the load of responsibilities on an IT department in a software company, this is an incredibly useful feature.
I love your product - it has made implementing an effective backup strategy extremely simple and hassle-free."
Steven McAllister, RTO Software, United States

"Excellent email support is another reason I purchased. I used the demo, which is also great to have available. When I hit a few issues your support emailed answers back in short amount of time and was very clear. That isn't the case with other products I use that cost a lot of money!!!
Thanks for making a product that makes my job EASIER!!!"

"I have considerable experience with IT Security & Disaster Recover. My current clients are looking for a low-cost dependable and reliable approach to backup & recovery. Your product simplifies the management of the windows-integrated NTBackup and Removeable Storage.
Low cost, Ease of use. Makes the complexity (difficulty) of Ntbackup and Removeable Storage manageable."
Anthony Povinelli, Povinelli Enterprises, USA

"Attempted to use ntbackup and had many problems. Tried the 30-day trial of BackupAssist and knew immediately I would purchase.
The beauty of this software lies in it's simplicity. I was installed and running backups within minutes."
David McGee, SynFine Research, Inc., Canada

"This software is extremely good value money, with features that you would pay hundreds of dollars for if you were to purchase on of the so call big players. The User Interface is VERY User Friendly and it is a matter of set it and forget it (well almost you still need to check the logs). Thanks for a well designed product, and I have already started to tell others about it."

"We used [major competitor's product] before, but found it was too expensive. The Windows 2003 standard backup solution doesn't meet our requirements though. Easy tape handling, no console login needed for tape change...
Perfect for our needs. We needed fully automatic backups."
Peter Fastre, GSM Munsterbilzen, Belgium

"I purchased BackupAssist because I was tired of pulling my hair out with [competitor's] over priced and overly complex software.
BackupAssist was the third or fourth demo I downloaded via Google. Ease of use. BackupAssist provided me with all the features I needed with a very easy to use setup/configuration interface.
Good job with BackupAssist. Other backup software companies should take follow your lead."
Jeff Lowe, Network Administrator, Indigenous Gaming Regulators Inc., Canada

"I was having problems with Windows 2003 Backup. This was just the solution I was looking for. It was easy to use and it ejected the tape. It also sends an email about the result of the backup."
Richard M. Salem, Benedictine High School, Cleveland, Ohio USA

"BackupAssist makes NTBackup work. Most backup software like [competitor] is too complex and too heavy for a something that is in fact really simple: copying files to a tape drive. NTbackup however has many shortcoming which are overcome by BackupAssist. The mail functionality is very important. Also the fact that BackupAssist is an NT service is a good thing."
Maurice Tijhuis, Twinfield International N.V., The Netherlands

"Less expensive alternative to [competitor]. We have 3 servers, 2 with [competitor] and one that wasn't backing up. I was looking for a solution for the 3rd server but didn't want to pay for [competitor].
Once the application is set up, I think it is great. It is nice to have an alternative to the bigger more expensive applications that really don't provide the same ease of use. Your application was nearly 1/4 the cost of [competitor] and was much easier to use with the same level of protection."
Chris Olson, Robart Companies (Transportation Management), USA

"Thanks for writing easy to use software, suitable for a small network environment, without all the bells and whistles which so often get in the way.
It is focused on what it does, specifically setting up the paramenters for backup to run. No unnecessary complication or blurring."
Graeme Whaley, Regional Training Unit, N.Ireland, United Kingdom

"We were using ntbackup for almost all our customers.
We think that ntbackup is enough for almost all our customer. But is not very easy to set up correctly, and each version of Windows since NT4 is different. BA simplifies the usage of ntbackup, and sends messages for success or troubles.
Keep going!"
Jean-Christophe BARREAU, Objectif Services, France

"I was looking for a program that would take care of backup needs for small businesses.
I searched on the internet and found your site, read your information and downloaded the trial software and was very impressed.
I found the software easy to use and the setup straight forward and intuitive.
Great job so far, very happy and satisfied customer."
Larry Catron, IT Consultant, Logical Premise LLC, USA

"Because for small networks (25 PC) NT-Backup is simply not usable and causes only troubles - at least for non-experts - without creating backups on tapes. We were trying to implement a backup rotation system using only nt-backup.
Easy to install and easy to use and it creates messages whether the backup was successful or not."
Notar Dr. Markus Huber, Dr. Markus Huber, Germany

"I purchased BackupAssist because I got tired of Ntbackup awful scheduler. I was looking at [competitor].
Easy-to-use, excellent mailer and scheduler."

Reliability + Notifications by e-mail."

Inexpensive way to get a 'backup monitoring tool' in sites where we were using NTBACKUP"
Dan Struthers, HardSoft Systems Ltd, Canada

"Looked for a tape drive software solution, tried BackupAssist and it worked great."
Jason Whinnery, Adtec, Inc. US

"We tried a list of tape backup programs, we had backup failures 3 times out of 5 and thought the problem was hardware related; the backup would start but never finish, its status would remain "running" forever. We were looking at implementing a backup rotation system prior to purchasing your software."
Berdj Boyadjian, Bankers Assurance s.a.l., Lebanon

"Needed new program to perform backup. NTbackup simply doesn't do it without BackupAssist."
Filip Hřjbak, Purchasing customer H.O. Service A/S (Work for CarVil Data), Denmark, Europe

John Milward, IPCO Ltd, UK

"We needed to backup Exchange and SQL Server but didn't want to spend a fortune."
Gary Baldwin, Davison C E High School, UK

"We purchased this product because of the demo, it was basicaly easy to setup and implement what was needed. What sold me was e-mail notification (and one of your testimonials). These are just my views and opinions and by no means reflect those of the people that hire me to do this job."
George Klukowski, Don Wilson Insurance, USA

John Greene, TIC-Jamaica, Jamaica

"We have a number of smaller clients that have only one or maybe two servers.
We, nor they, could justify the cost of software like [competitor] for there organization. BackupAssist has all we need for these types of clients and the tape rotation system is a breeze to configure."

"Ease of use and configuration and email reminders! BackupAssist is a great utility."

"I looked at different programs, i.e. [competitors]
I found that none of the could provide the easy-to-use GUI I was looking for.
Great software and very user-friendly."
Titti Kerr, West Indian International Tours Ltd., Barbados

"We purchased BackupAssist to enable a better and more thorough backup system, we used NTBackup but found that it was fairly limiting and did not produce clear enough log files and notifications.
Our computer maintenance company recommended the package. From what I have seen of the software, it has made my (and my IT Guys?) lives less complicated with regard to our backup needs."
David Elliott, Hampton medical Conferences Ltd, United Kingdom

"We purchased BackupAssist because it gave us the added functionality we wanted from NT backup. The version of NT backup that came with NT4 was sufficient at the time but since the release of Windows 2000 it was no longer meeting our requirements.
I have found BackupAssist to be reliable, flexible and informative. BackupAssist is extremely straight forward in my mind. I think even the lowest end of users would be able to handle this product quite easily."
Steven Jones - Network Administrator, MS Society of NSW, Australia

"The product we were using was not doing what we needed... (BackupAssist) does what is expected of a backup product... using your backup software has released a great burden."
Ron Backx, George Willcox Granite Ltd, United Kingdom

"It is "sucker-proof"...... even I could do it!"
Ronald Pieterse, FPP bv (Flower Plant Partners), the Netherlands

"NTBACKUP and Windows 2003 Scheduler do not provide a robust solution. Regularly the backups do not complete and NTBACKUP.EXE is left as a running process and has to be ended in Task Manager.
BackupAssist also lets us eject tapes after a backup. This is ideal for our
remote sites where an office manager is responsible for loading tapes. If a new tape has not been loaded the backup will not happen where before it would just write over the loaded tape.
Emailing of backup reports makes it easy to confirm completed backups. The SQL backup feature saves time and effort as it automatically dumps the database and backs up the dump files.
We already had implemented a backup rotation system prior to purchase of BackupAssist and continue to use it in conjunction with BackupAssist."
Alan Douglas, IHC, New Zealand

"The application was that good, that it is worth the 127 euros more than twice... After the Eval version I was completely astonished about what this simple application did for me."
Rob Litjens, Operation Development Engineer, Maroli ICT Advies, The Netherlands

Rick Pearson, The Ripe Group, Australia

"Extremely flexible, does everything we need (and more), simple well laid out interface. Excellent product. Does exactly what it is supposed to do and is easy to configure and control."
Panztel (UK) Ltd, UK

"It appeared to service my backup needs without a large investment. The built in rotation system was a plus. When faced with the choice of purchasing a new licence that would backup open files, domino databases, and SQL Server databases versus using the existing NT Backup with BackupAsssist, the decision was simple. Adding BackupAssist to the mix only simplified the NT Backup interface, which was already a solid product... Very user friendly and relatively inexpensive. It has features that other products offer at a substantial cost.
I found that once it was setup, it ran without any further intervention. I am notified by email to insert a specific tape and am notified when the backup is successful."
Mr. Battista Foderaro, Department of Canadian Heritage, Federal Government of Canada

"Had been using [competitor] on NT but needed to upgrade to W2003 version. Rather than do so we wanted to try to use Microsoft's NT Backup in W2003 but were having problems. While trying to find answers to those problems using Google, I came across BackupAssist and decided to give it a try.
Adds value to NT Backup by overcoming that product's limitations."
Chris Smith, Faber Systems Ltd, UK

"Windows Backup Program would not automate to our needs... we do not have to go through the backup process manually.
Extremely user friendly and easy to understand. The 30 day trial really sold me. I liked that I was able to get the full functionality of the product to try so I could make up my mind to buy."
Christina Lang, A.L. Wilson Chemical Co. , NJ USA

"Installed new computer system and wanted a reliable backup... (BackupAssist) works and can be scheduled."

"Simple to use and reliable
Quick and easy to order, install and use. Great!"
Leonie Simpson, Ecosys, UK

"Ease of use, simple email interface and good reliable reporting.
Many other backup products over-complicate the setup process and the
reporting process. [Competitor] for example is a nightmare for the average
user to understand whether the backup as successful or not. Some of our
larger clients are also interested in your product, simply because it
lets them know, quickly and simply, whether the backup has worked or not.
This may seem like a small thing but for many IT departments / backup operators
it's a real problem."
Barry Anderson, Alpha Lan Systems, UK

"I didn't want to spend several thousand dollars on another backup software package that really just duplicated what Windows backup can do. I just had difficulty setting up this to be automated or scheduled. BackupAssist took care of everything and works very well.
It was very easy to setup and configure."
Randy Lane, Aeration Industries International, Inc, USA

"We had been using the embedded backup program in Windows 2000 but found that there were too many inconsistencies. Better interface for introducing new tapes and tape rotation scheduling. Much better error reporting."
Ted Khinsoe, Ranford Medical Centre, Australia

"We were using [competitor]. It was just too complicated to maintain, and use. We had a daily backup routine in place but nothing like yours.
The simplicity of the approach, completeness of backup schedules, and it's integration with an existing Microsoft Product. By far the best program for us.
I had more trouble getting RID of [competitor] than I did installing your software."
Terry Kleinsmith, Miller Mallory and Kleinsmith PLLC, USA

"Had [competitor], but found it very complex and a pain every time I wanted to replace the existing tapes in the rotation.
Easy to use, self explanatory, and backup of network drives is possible without additional software... Super happy with that!"
Dan Quirk, Cyber Cove, Inc., USA

"Easy to use, flexible and no proprietary formats for the files created."
Dave Burniston, IT Administrator, Friesen, Kaye and Associates, Canada

Ian Rigby, Chatham South School, UK

"We were looking for a non-expensive solution that really grants our data backup.
User friendly, self explained, easy-to-use and cheap."
Luiz Melges, Vitrotec vidros de seguranca ltda., Brazil

"We already had a backup rotation - we just didn't have the time to invest in creating the email and print scripts that would do it with ntbackup.exe's log files. Plus, you have an open file option that comes with the base purchase."
Robert W. Schottman, MASS Computer Systems, Inc., USA

"I love the email notification systems and the ease of use...
Simplicity... price point for the SMB market."
Ronald A. Kramer MCSE, ASE, All Computer Solutions, Inc., USA

Being able to backup Exchange and open files is a big PLUS+++. The software is very user friendly and easy to use and set up. Even my boss could do it."
Adam Leach, Heathfield School, England

"E-mail notifications, tape rotations, user-friendly interface...
NTBackup build in Windows 2003 is not as user-friendly as BackupAssist is."
Piotr Lada, Helimed Sp. z o.o., Poland

2. Price
3. Easy to use"
Brad Porter, Porter's Survey P.C., USA

Ease of use, clearly written instructions and the fast and accurate support."
Michael Best, Best & Company, CPA's, USA

"I upgraded to Windows 2003 and the Backup software was not as friendly as in Windows NT 4.0. We lost data because the tapes were not pooled properly.
(BackupAssist is) easy to use and emails notification of the success or failure."
Richard Salem, Benedictine High School, USA

"Yes, we used ntbackup before - or better: tried to do so. The results were dissatisfactory. After a disk failure, we found out that the last usable backup was a month old :-(
Simple setup, yet flexible enough even for advanced configurations. Got my backups set up in no time.
I had no problems with it. It's well documented and comes with a lot of useful tips.
Keep up the good work and the friendly, quick and competent support!"

User interface, e-mail reminders/reports, security in knowing that it will work!
Very happy with the product and the customer service is superb!"
Matt Buchan, Scott Techinical Instruments (SI) Ltd., New Zealand

"Cost was a big factor -- [A competitor was] our product of choice until we found YOU!

"We have been using NTbackup on NT4 servers for years and this had worked well, but once we upgraded to Windows 2003, we started having problems managing the tape library. BackupAssist looked like it would solve these problems and allow us to put the correct tape in the server every morning and forget about it. Which it has... thanks!
A good, sound, reliable product. Thanks."

Price is good and it's simple to use."

Thank you for your help and the friendly communication."

I like the fact that it leverages NTBackup and so takes advantage of the latest OS features like Shadow Copy for backing up open files. Other solutions charge extra for this capability."
Frank Bonini, Bonini Studios, USA

"Price, SQL backup, ease of use, and also, main reason: easy to buy without options. Whenever I try to figure out what components of a backup system I need, the vendor websites had about 30 different 'products' or 'modules' and I was always afraid I was buying too much or stuff I did not need. We are a small firm (25-30 workstations)."

Good work and a economical solution. It had already cost me more in man hours trying to get Small Business Server 2003 Backup to work correctly than BackupAssist cost. Ten minutes to install and configure - Spot On. Our QA auditor also thought it was great."

Ease of use.
Your support is fantastic.
A M Ginsberg, St Michael's Woolmer Green & Bushey manor JM Schools, UK

Easy to set up and configure vs. Pure NT backup.
Cost effectiveness, easy installation and setup.
One of the best pieces of software I ever used/bought.
Gernot Faigel, Analog Devices, Austria

I was looking for a easy to use system by which I did not have to think about the next step. But it had to be very reliable. And I have read all the reviews. When it was clear that there was BackupAssist to do that, I was sold. Further more, the price is real good.
Have used [a competitor] and tried several other backup software but not one of them can tip on the functionality, ease of use, price and the team behind the software, from developer to sales. I am really very content with the software and am so glad to have bought it. Great sofwtare, great team and great prices.
Jerry Robles de Medina, Godo credit union, Suriname

Problems with SBS Backup (ntbackup) with Travan drive.

If for no other reason than this you have sold me on your product by providing great customer service and support... you are miles ahead of everyone else.
I have completed 6 full backups now. Your product delivers! I am both amazed and thankful for this product. I have restored single files and multiple files to get the feel of your software and its capabilities. I am very impressed. It works great. It is both easy to learn and to use. "We previously had a tape backup system and have used [a competitor's] backup software for the last 4 years. The tape drive went bad and we replaced it. We were dissatisfied with [the competitor] and tried different backup programs to select a replacement. BackupAssist worked the best and was easiest to configure.
"As a small business... we have difficulty finding business software that is within our budget. Another issue for us is that we host our own email server and have to be able to backup our mailbox store. We are very happy to have found BackupAssist--it does what we need it to, price was reasonable, and it did not require an IT professional to install and setup. Thank you!!"
Jean Black, Cruise Masters, USA

"We updated our server to Windows 2003 Enterprise ed. The version of [a competitor] we were using was not compatible and I did not want to spend hundreds of dollars to upgrade to their new version. Given the power of the native backup program that comes with Windows Server, I just needed an inexpensive way to harness it. Your product did just that for us.
"Powerful, dependable and easy to implement.
"From novice to expert, the menus and instructions are thorough and comprehensive.
"Thank you for a well made and needed software product at a very reasonable price."
Lane Sells, Haan Crafts, USA

"Purchased because after research it seemed the best backup system for a desktop machine. I especially liked the way it was essentially a wrapper for ntbackup; it gave me more confidence in the product.
"Highly impressive."
Lee Marsh, Mellow Marsh Software Ltd., United Kingdom

"Not so expensive software and easy to configure. We had lots of problems with [a competitor].
"Easy to configure, simple to use."
Marco Benedetti, NewData GmbH, Switzerland

"I was having a lot of problems with the Windows backup on Small Business Server 2003. [A competitor] is quite pricey and BackupAssist is more reasonably priced. I was already doing a tape rotation prior... the email support has been great in every instance that I have used it. Actually, that is one of the best things of your software, the support behind it. Keep up the good work!"
Mike Boulet, Mainely Trusses, Inc, United States

"Reliability, ease of use.
Y"our SW is great and has made backing up 100 GB of Data really easy and 100% reliable at a fraction of the cost of the usual backup software."
Mike Green, UK

"I was looking for a backup solution for long time because I was sick of implementing [a competitor] (since it is [the competitor], it simply does not work stable and is horrible expensive also has features I never needed and many features are not working properly).
"I tried the 30 days demo of BA and it worked all the 30 days without any errors or complications, so I checked the price and found the BA is worth its price. It has all the functions I need for our SB customers to back up their data simple and safe.
"I think the greatest strength of the software is that thing with 'Set it up and forget it' it really is so."
Miric Milos , Business Network Service, Germany

"Ease of configurability. Wizards. Well thought out."
Neal Hacker, MPNG, Inc. USA

"Ease of Use, Price
"Excellent piece of software!"
Sonny Perez, Lynn Lee DQ Inc, USA

"The necessary [competitor] options were prohibitively expensive, and I've found [the competitor] to be difficult and awkward to use in the past as well. [The competitor's] Tech Support is costly and frustrating as well. So for this new server we decided to look at alternatives. BackupAssist accomplishes what I need it to, is relatively inexpensive, and you guys actually respond personally with answers, assistance and help when I try to contact you.
"It's straightforward and easy to use and understand. I particularly like
the fact that BA tells me exactly how to label the tapes, how many I'll
need, and with the calendar view displays exactly which tape to use
when.
"The personal aspect and attention are the best thing about BackupAssist."
Steve Jacobs, ISS Group, USA

"Simple, easy to use and understand. I don't have to have a degree in Computer Science to use.
"VERY User friendly, and easy to use.
"Your software and support is worldclass. I cannot tell you how much I appreaciate the ease and simplicity of its use. The last thing a part time administrator like me needs to have to learn how to either backup or restore in a crisis sistuation. Your support and docuementation are excellent!"
Terry Kleinsmith CPA, Miller Mallory and Kleinsmith PLLC, USA

"We wanted to use something that was efficient, simple to use and at a reasonable price."
Tom Gath, Masta Ltd, United Kingdom

"Congratulations on creating an excellent software package which stands above others in the market for its full functionality, low cost and simplicity of use - you have filled a gap in the market perfectly."
Adam Case, Stickman Technology, UK

"Purchased it because it appeared to be the cheapest and easiest to use solution that provided both SQL and Exchange backup solutions in one package.
"
Andre Wilson, Digital ID, UK

"Needed a better backup program than the basic ntbackup.exe. We were using [a competitor] on our NT4.0 Server, however when we upgraded to Windows 2000 Server, the [competitor] would not install. At that point we were not interested in spending over a $1,000 USD for new software, when the [competitor] seemed to be more enterprise like than for a single office. So, I was researching other options and came across BackupAssist. The 30 day full test drive sealed the deal! That and the price."
Bob Collins, Schaefer Fagan Engineers, USA

"Our clients needed a very reliable, DVD-based backup system.
"It works with DVD and it sends e-mail feedback.

"Straightforward and consistent."
Greg Garvin, Clear Lead Pty Ltd, Australia

"I have always had a rotating system that I maintain manually, however as I spend time away from the office it is good to have a very simple system for others to follow.
"Intuitive - very easy to use, no need to learn new terminology or change religion or anything... Oh, and reliable. Not that I've used for long but so far it's worked every time.
"Just my congratulations. At last something sleek, fast, logical, functional and reliable. It would appear that whoever wrote this came from our side of the desk."
John Podaras, TRI Hospitality Consulting, United Arab Emirates
